The Birth of Sofia

When I found out I was pregnant, I was at once amazed, overjoyed, excited & totally terrified. The only births I had ever witnessed were on TV or in movies and were not exactly calm events. Stories told to me by other mothers were also quite terrifying and by the end of my first trimester, I had all but signed myself up for every drug available!

Fortunately, the universe brought me Bree and my path to a calmer, more empowered birth began.

The two most important outcomes for me were:

  • developing confidence in my body’s ability to birth my baby
  • giving my husband a specific role as my support person.

HypnoBirthing empowered me and allowed me to truly believe that my body is not only capable but perfectly designed to birth my baby.  The daily affirmations and relaxation convinced me that my birth would be easy, and for the last few months of my pregnancy, I was brimming with confidence. Many, many people commented on how relaxed and calm I seemed to them.

Having my husband as my main support person during the birth was amazing.  Without his support, my birth experience would have been very different.  During the birth, there came a time when I began to lose faith in myself.  I began to think that I wouldn’t be able to do it; that the pain was too much; that I wanted drugs to make it all go away.  But my husband reminded me to breathe; to breathe deeply, down to the baby.  He also told me that he knew I could do it – that he believed in me.  He got the midwife in (who was also fantastic), who suggested I try gas to take the edge off first.  That was all that I needed.

The birth continued on for another 12 hours after that moment, but in the end, I birthed a healthy, beautiful, baby girl.  Her birth brought my husband and me closer and was without question, the most empowering experience of my life.
